I met Dayna in Calgary a few years ago; we were all up for the weekend (as is planned every September long) to watch the Brewdawgs play in the annual Slo-pitch National Tourney. Everyone had heard rumblings of Chris having a “hot” new girlfriend, but not to many of us had met her just yet.
They walked in through the gate and this cute little thing in a black leather jacket, flip flops and long dark hair on Chris’s arm gave me a smile as Chris introduced her to myself and the rest of the team.
We seemed to hit it off right away; not only recounting our old golfing days but really just generally speaking. Dayna is open and extremely friendly person, she has a giggle that is contagious which made it super easy for us to quickly become friends.
Well a few years have since gone by and although Chris and Dayna haven’t attended Calgary (for a few years), we still manage to keep contact. When we talked there typically wasn’t to much new to report; until one dinner date, turned into another.. and another and soon Chris moved in with Dayna; and then Dayna and Chris moved into Chris’s house and then one day Chris popped the question! Of course I was super stoked for them both!! And not a bit surprised to hear Dayna’s response to Chris’s proposal was “Hell Yes.” lol (And I’m sure it was followed by a true Dayna giggle).
We made plans a few times to get together for their engagement photos but due to the crazy cold weather we’ve had the past couple months we were often forced to reschedule. Finally on the 11th of January, Jeff and I were able to travel down to Regina. All four of us jumped in my SUV and headed off to a few of our locations. Stopping first at a park just off Scarth Street. It may have been cold outside (due to the 70 km/hr wind gusts) but they didn’t let it bother them. Chris would make a joke or even just tell a story and smitten Dayna would melt, with her contagious giggle. They made my job easy as I could photograph and watch as their love story continued to build right in front of us. ???? We roamed the park and Scarth street for their session. Around every corner was a chance for a new and different looking photo.
After about 45 minutes we took a break in a near by pub (Beer Brothers); where the guys ordered a few different pints from the ridiculously long beer menu. I settled for an ice tea and Dayna, (requiring a little warm up) had a coffee. We also had supper there and can definitely say the hearty foods did just the trick. They hit the spot and kept me warm for the time being. After supper Jeff and I headed back out into the crazy Saskatchewan wind to get setup for our next couple photographs while we had Dayna and Chris waiting for their “cue” inside where it was warmer.
Thank you to Dayna and Chris for the opportunity to photograph your engagement and for the hospitality for the evening.
They’ll be married this August and I couldn’t be happier for them. We spent the rest of the evening trying new photography techniques and skating around at a near by outdoor rink and this is what transpired….
